Cookies

A cookie is a small text file that is transferred to and stored on the hard drive of the user’s computer. As cookies are site specific DA’s Website can only read the cookie that it has placed on your computer. It cannot access information from other cookies that may be on your computer or capture your e-mail address.

DA uses cookies to maintain navigation information during your site visit so that our Website will be easier for you to use. In particular, a cookie will:
- help to keep track of the user’s preferences within the Website
- save users from having to identify themselves each time they visit the Website

Registered users who wish to access their confidential account information via the Website are not dependent on a cookie but must login using the User ID and password, which are essential for administration and security during the access.

Most Internet browsers are preset to accept cookies. At your discretion, you may configure your computer’s browser software to disallow the use and storage of any cookie on your computer or to warn you whenever cookies are being used.

Information that you provide to DA

You may browse DA's website without entering any personal information. However, you cannot place an order or complete a registration without providing some minimal information. The minimum information that you need to provide to complete a transaction is noted on our web pages.

We also collect email addresses of users who communicate to us via email, via the feedback page or site registration. We will only use your email address for the purpose for which you provided it. It will not be added to a mailing list unless you have specifically requested this, nor will we disclose it to other parties without your consent.

Your credit card information

Care is taken to protect the confidentiality of your credit card details. DA will not charge your credit card until your order is despatched. Once the transaction is completed your credit card details will be removed from the system, unless we have your written permission to retain them, in which case your details will be stored off-line. Access to our credit card information will only be accessible to a controlled number of staff who would need the information in order to process your order.

Should you choose to send your credit card details to DA via the Internet we recommend that you do so via the use of a browser that supports secure transactions (refer Security, below). DA can take no responsibility for the safety of your transmission over the Internet. Alternatively you may advise your credit card details, name and address to DA via telephone +613 9210 7777 (ask for TitleSearch Service) or via fax +613 9210 7788.

Title alerting service

DA's Title Alerting Service is a simple and effective way to ensure that you stay regularly informed on information products. You provide your name and contact details and nominate the subject areas in which you are interested. You can then expect to receive an advice on titles in your area on interest up to 10 times during the year. At any time you may amend your personal details or subject profile by contacting DA for a new form. You may also elect to withdraw from this service and your name will be removed from the mailing list.

How we use your personal information

The information that you give us will only be used for the purpose for which it was provided. For example, it would be used to process your application or order, to respond to comments you have made or questions you have asked, or to notify you of coming events in which you have expressed an interest. In some cases DA may use non-personal aggregate information for internal reviews to analyse trends and statistics. Such non-personal aggregate information may be shared with related third parties.

We will only collect personal information from you with your consent.

Information from other parties

It may be necessary to obtain credit reports about you from credit reporting agencies to assess your creditworthiness or so that we may collect overdue payments from you. Similarly, if you are in default on an account we may need to provide personal information (name and address etc) to our collection agent.

Changes to the uses of information

From time to time we may wish to use customer information for new, unanticipated uses not previously disclosed in our privacy statement. If information practices change at some time in the future we will post the policy changes to our websites to notify you of these changes and provide you with the ability to opt out of these new uses. If you are concerned about how your information is used, you may check our website at any time or contact the privacy office at DA.
